With all the clever advertising around these days, it would be easy to think that we could get flawless skin from any of the so-called miracle creams available. These advertisers are very clever in the way they market their products by selling a dream. In that dream, we apply this 'wonder-cream' and within minutes our skin is radiant, lifted, clear, young-looking and flawless.
Well, dream on, because flawless, young looking skin does not come out of a jar. Sure, things can help with the texture and tone of the skin. Some creams give a temporary tightening effect. But the basics of good skin are the same as the basics of good health :

Eat a Healthy Diet
Drink Plenty of Fresh Bottled Water
Exercise Regularly
Get Plenty of Fresh Air







The Importance of Diet and Exercise

Diet is the single most important factor regarding your health. Many people underestimate how important a healthy diet is to our well-being, but it is obvious. What you put in is what you get out. Always.

When considering our skin, it makes sense to every day :

Eat plenty ( at least five a day ) of fruit and vegetables
Drink at least 2 litres of fresh bottled mineral water
Take a multivitamin and multimineral supplement
Cut down on sugar and fatty fried foods ( your skin can't look good if you're feeding it crap)
Get regular exercise and fresh air

With a healthy diet, our bodies function to their full capacity, as they are supposed to. You cannot expect to live on takeaways and have flawless skin. Generally, people who live on this kind of rubbish have a typically pasty complexion, and pimples on the cheeks where all the fat in their diet has made their skin look death-like. And who can blame their bodies for retaliating?

Often our diets don't contain all the necessary vitamins and minerals that are essential to good health. I recommend a multivitamin and multimineral supplement every day for good health, and skin.

Our bodies love exercise !  Yes, they do ! What do you mean yours doesn't?  It can be hard to start exercising if you're not used to it, but once you get going you will feel and look great. I will go more into diet and exercise in the Body section of this site. But for now, you need to know that you skin will benefit enormously if you get out in the fresh air every day and really get your heart-rate going. Even a brisk half-hour walk in the fresh air will make you feel different and your skin  look different - more radiant and glowing - and remember fresh air is free !



Get Plenty of Sleep - You Need It !

The importance of a good night's sleep is paramount in ensuring your overall good health. While we are asleep our bodies repair themselves. Lack of sufficient, good-quality sleep results in not only bad moods, clumsiness and an inability to concentrate properly, but also a pale washed-out, aged complexion. Let's face it, that's not attractive in any shape or form. You cannot have flawless skin if you skimp on your sleep. The amount of sleep needed varies from person to person but on average it's about 8 hours a night. You tend to know how much sleep you need by how you feel. There's nothing like waking up totally refreshed and ready for anything. It enhances your whole day. So remember to get those hours in....



Other Factors That Affect Our Skin

Sun Exposure

The sun is good for us in moderation. When we expose our skin to the sun, it produces Vitamin D which is essential for our good health. However, overexposure results in sun-damaged skin and the inevitable wrinkles that follow. Not only that, but excessive sun exposure eventually leads to liver spots, and loss of elasticity
( that's why people who spend too much time in the sun have skin like a piece of leather - not attractive...).

Smoking - A Nightmare For Those Seeking Flawless Skin

If you want radiant, glowing skin, throw those cigarettes out right now!  It is common knowledge that cigarettes, apart from the major health risks, cause premature ageing of the skin.

Alcohol

Alcohol is another baddie as far as healthy, glowing, flawless skin is concerned. While it's ok to have a few drinks now and again, drinking in moderation is the key here. Alcohol dehydrates the body, and in turn the skin, so the more you drink the more dehydrated you become. Not good news for you skin ( or your body).

Stress

Another one to avoid as much as possible. Although it's impossible to avoid stress entirely in our fast-paced lives, think about what you can do to minimise it as much as possible. Your lifestyle shows in your face.  When I am out sometimes I see people and I can tell they've had a hard life just by looking at them. Stress causes premature ageing.

Periods of relaxation during the day ( or at the beginning or end) are so important to your well-being, especially if you lead a hectic lifestyle.
