Choosing The Best Fashion Colors For Your Complexion
When deciding what to wear, there are several factors to take into account when choosing clothes to flatter you. Your height, build, and individual shape.
What you also want to ask you yourself is the effect you are trying to achieve. After all, some tall skinny people are happy to look tall and skinny, whereas others may wish to look a little shorter and more fuller figured. The clothes they choose will determine the end result. The list below shows you what to wear to achieve various results.
Choose the look you're after :
To give the illusion of height, wear all one color, preferably a dark shade. Wear vertical stripes. Long, slim-fitting outfits of one color. Bootcut or skinny flare jean or trousers lengthen the legs. Floor-length dresses lengthen the whole body. The slimmer the style, the taller you look. Hotpants and short shorts lengthen the legs. Avoid crop trousers and jeans.
It's obvious but - wear high heels!
Crop trousers and jeans give the illusion of shorter legs. Wide fitting outfits, loose trousers. Wear a different color on the top half to the bottom half. Horizontal stripes make you appear wider and therefore not so tall. Wear flat shoes. Ankle strap shoes give the appearance of shorter legs.
Vertical stripes are great. Wear outfits of all one color, preferable dark colors. Plain dark fabrics work best. Avoid horizontal stripes and patterns, they add width. Avoid large bold patterns and prints - they add volume. High heels make the legs look longer and slimmer.
Large, bold colorful prints will make you appear fuller figured as they add volume. Horizontal stripes add width. Wear pale colors in loose styles - not so loose that they hang on you though! Wear a different color on the top half to the bottom half. Flat shoes make the legs appear shorter and wider.
Wear dark colored tops. Wear plain tops without detail. Avoid V-necked tops as they make the bust look larger.
Wear light colored tops. Tops with ruched detail at the bust enhance all that you have. V-necked tops make the bust look larger.
Wear plain, dark colours on the bottom half. Avoid having your bum on full view - that is, try to wear longer tops that come down to the top of the thighs. This takes attention away from your bum as everyone will notice your clothes and not your bum! Vertical stripes are slimming. Figure-hugging, slim fitting styles of jeans are ok so long as you remember the golden rule about wearing your tops to thigh level, and remember not to wear them too tight - this accentuates bulges. Bootcut trousers and jeans balance your bottom half. Avoid trousers with large, bold patterns and bright colours. Avoid skinny fit jeans. Tailored, slim-fitting skirts in quality fabrics work well. Avoid anything white on the bottom half.
Wear light-colored trousers and jeans. Loose-fitting styles on the bottom half are best to add width. Avoid dark colors on the bottom half. Avoid dark, tight jeans. Trousers with large, bold, colorful patterns are ideal. Full, flouncy skirts are perfect.
Wear dark-colored trousers and jeans in slim, thigh skimming styles such as bootcut jeans and skinny flares. Tailored, slim-fitting skirts in quality fabrics work well. Avoid anything too tight as it will accentuate any bulges. Vertical stripes are great. Avoid cropped trousers - they add width. Avoid trousers with large, colorful prints. Avoid skinny fit jeans. Avoid anything white on the bottom half.
Wear looser styles of trousers and jeans in good-quality fabrics which hang well - white linen is ideal. Crop trousers and jeans in loose, baggy styles are great. Wear boy-fit jeans. Light colors and also large, bold colorful prints add volume. Avoid skinny fit trousers and jeans. Avoid dark colors on the bottom half. Avoid vertical stripes.
Vest tops, t-shirts, cap-sleeves all work well. Avoid spaghetti straps, halter necks, muscle backs and anything strapless.
Strapless dresses and tops make the shoulders appear wider, so these are perfect if you are narrow across the shoulders and wish to add width. Spaghetti straps are great. Halter necks work too. Muscle backs give the illusion of wider shoulders and a defined back.

Choosing The Best Fashion Colors For Your Complexion
When considering the color of the clothes we choose to wear, it is so important to remember our individual coloring/complexion.
I have talked about the importance of choosing the best colors for your hair and face in the previous sections.
Now we are going to complete the look with the best fashion shades for your coloring.
I know many people who wear the same colors year after year which don't flatter their complexion simply because they like those colors, and don't realise that, although they like the colors - the colors don't like them.
Do you like to try new colors when you are out clothes-shopping, or do you tend to go for the same shades time and again? It's easy to get into the comfort zone when shopping for clothes. You know the colors you like, so that's what you wear - right? Wrong.
Although it's natural to want to wear our favourite colors, we must first decide whether those lovely colors actually suit our complexion, or whether they drain us of color and make us look ill ( I see this so much).
So, I am asking you to be open-minded and start trying out colors that you wouldn't normally go for. Hold them up against your face and see how your skintone looks different with each color. You may be surprised to find that some of those colors you thought you didn't like are actually very flattering to your complexion, bringing your skin to life, accentuating the color of your eyes etc.
For example. I am spring coloring, and I have always disliked the color brown. One day, when I had learned the rules about color dressing for my color season, I picked up a beautiful cream a brown top and held it up to my face in the shop mirror. "Wow" I thought. "My eyes look soooo green ! "
Because brown is right for my color season, it naturally flatters my skintone, making it look warmer and more healthy, and my eyes looked amazingly green. Yet, all my life I had avoided wearing brown because it wasn't one of my favourite colors.
Each color season suits different colors when it comes to clothing ( and hair and make-up).
Each color has different hues and shades, and this can make such a difference as to whether a color will suit you or not. Take pink for instance. There are so many shades of pink. From delicate pale pink to hot fuschia. Somewhere in that range could be your color. That is, if you are in the color season that can wear pink.
Below we have the Color Seasons chart, where you can easily find out which of the four color seasons you fall into. When you are sure which season you are, have a look at the shades to wear and the ones to avoid.

The colors that flatter you best within each season will depend upon your individual hair, eye and skin color.
Experiment, try colors you've never even thought about before ( as long as they are your season ) and hold them up to your face. See how your complexion changes with each color your try. Have fun - that's what fashion is all about !
